UN Global Compact Provides Platform for Business Leaders to Take Action on the SDGs

The United Nations Global Compact brought together leaders from business with representatives from Government, the UN, civil society and academia to highlight private sector commitment to take action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) – the annual platform for reviewing progress and guiding global efforts on the achievement of the SDGs by 2030.

Management Educators Commit to Advancing the SDGs

The 2017 PRME Global Forum was convened in conjunction with the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and organized under the theme of Making Global Goals Local Business: Bringing the SDGs to Every Classroom. Representatives from higher education institutions and other academic stakeholder groups noted ongoing progress within schools and through the global PRME network to advance the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Executive Update: A Sustained Approach to Combatting Corruption

Corruption is one of the greatest obstacles to economic and social development. Estimates reported by the World Bank show that the annual cost of corruption equals more than 5 per cent of global GDP (US$ 2.6 trillion) with over US$ 1 trillion paid in bribes each year. In comparison the estimated investment gap required to achieving the SDGs is US$ 2.5 trillion annually — combatting corruption could basically free up resources needed to create the world that we want.

New Business Model Update

As announced in a recent letter from our CEO & Executive Director Lise Kingo, starting in January 2018 the UN Global Compact will offer two distinct engagement tiers to suit your company’s needs: Participant or Signatory. This will allow you to create the most value from your participation throughout the UN Global Compact. In order to engage in either tier, companies will be asked to make a required annual financial contribution, which will fund the delivery of programmes and services to you at both the global and country level.
